Non-contact rotor position sensors are an essential part of control systems in magnetically suspended high-speed drives. In typical active magnetic bearing (AMB) levitated machine applications, the displacement mechanical air gap is measured with commercially available eddy current-based sensors. The aim this paper to propose a robust and compact three-dimensional sensor that can measure AMB system both radial axial directions. presents design utilizing only single unified stator shared mounted target piece surface achieve measurement all three axes. uses inductive measuring principle sense between piece, which makes it variations sensing target. Combined design, state art fully digital signal processing chain synchronous in-phase quadrature demodulation presented. feasibility proposed verified closed-loop application 350-kW, 15,000-r/min industrial induction suspension. provides alternative solution commercial current It meets requirements has construction conventional electrical steel lamination stacks copper winding.
